I'm not very adept with things like this then I went to my usual garage to see if they tin notice the fault. Having told them what I had institute on here.
He has come back saying it's the fuel feed unit and I need to buy a new fuel pump. With plumbing fixtures it's over £1000. I questioned information technology but he was certain I needed a new pump. Can someone tell me if this is correct or am I beingness stitched upwards?
Would be very grateful for help.

On EPC it looks similar the pump and the level sensor are all in one, and like your mechanic says, it would all want replacing if the reset doesnt work.
It doesnt await a hard chore to exercise, but apparently you take to drain the tank, and then best to let a garage do information technology.
Most likely he is quoting dealer prices for the pump, he would probably be happy to let y'all source one, and let him fit it.
I take attached the WIS instructions for replacing the unit.
Bear in mind that these instructions are for a ML WDB 164120, which is the ML280 fourmatic, but shouldnt be different for any of the ML series of that historic period.
You lot will too need a plumbing fixtures kit.
Every bit far as the part numbers are concerned, there should be a sticky label on top of the old pump with the number on it, information technology should be A1644700394, if it is then:
Brand new £255, which is a lot less than a dealer would charge. But dont buy it until you lot are certain you lot are getting the correct 1.
See how much a plumbing equipment kit is from a primary dealer, if they want telephone numbers, then get the part number and look online.

Dont know if this is any employ:
On EPC information technology looks like the pump and the level sensor are all in one, and like your mechanic says, information technology would all want replacing if the reset doesnt work.
It doesnt wait a hard job to do, but apparently you have to bleed the tank, so best to permit a garage do it.
Nearly probable he is quoting dealer prices for the pump, he would probably be happy to permit you source one, and permit him fit it.
I take attached the WIS instructions for replacing the unit of measurement.
Bear in heed that these instructions are for a ML WDB 164120, which is the ML280 fourmatic, but shouldnt exist different for whatever of the ML serial of that age.
You lot will also need a fitting kit.As far equally the part numbers are concerned, there should be a pasty label on elevation of the old pump with the number on it, it should exist A1644700394, if information technology is then:
Brand new £255, which is a lot less than a dealer would charge.
But dont purchase information technology until you are certain you are getting the right one.
See how much a plumbing fixtures kit is from a main dealer, if they want telephone numbers, then get the function number and expect online.

I'1000 trying to exercise the fuse reset equally per you lot're utube video (something I asked the mechanic to do but I'yard non sure he did.)
I've found the correct fuse No 57 equally attached movie. My model is a bit later than the i on you're video. It does the pump and the gauge. I just can't tell from you're u tube video if the guy had the ignition on when he took it out and replaced information technology.
It looks like it was on but I didn't want to try it in instance information technology shorts or something.
Also as the pump works fine I'm s fleck nervous of playing about with it.

Use a fuse puller, or a pair of needle nose pliers to pull the fuse, take information technology out, wait 20 seconds, so push it back in again.
The pump and the level sensor are 2 dissimilar circuits in one unit of measurement, the power volition be carve up within the unit.
It used to exist ii seperate units, a pump, and a seperate level sensor, whichever one conked out, yous replaced.
But so some genius had the idea of putting them into one unit, progress says they, greedy bastards grabbing more than money says I.
And so, the pump tin be working fine, but if the level sensor is knackered, you have to supersede the whole lot, fifty quid level sensor against five hundred quid tandem unit (Which probably price 25 quid to make), thats modernistic motoring for you lot!

If they do information technology again, endeavour politely pointing out to them that they only have to post once.
If they continue, then get all snarky with them.
